For the 2024‑2025 academic year, over 12,000 students were enrolled, 68% Latinx, 8% Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% Black/African American, 17% White, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% multiracial. Madera Community College is a Hispanic‑Serving Institution and is deeply invested in the educational attainment and economic well‑being of its surrounding community.

Responsibilities

Teach a variety of courses in Ethnic Studies as assigned;

Create curriculum in Latinx or Chicano Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies or American Indian Studies as applicable;

Coordinate and collaborate with other discipline faculty at Madera Community College and within the District;

Maintain currency in the Ethnic Studies discipline;

Serve as faculty advisor for student groups as applicable;

Work with campus and community organizations to complement and enhance the Ethnic Studies programs;

Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;

Participate in program development and expansion of Ethnic Studies courses, including connections with industry and Career and Guided Pathways;

Participate in curriculum development and review, including program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;

Identify and recommend potential adjunct faculty to teach classes;

Assist in evaluating adjunct instructors;

Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large‑group instruction classes as needed;

Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and of the need for equity‑minded practice within the classroom.

Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies;

or

Master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian‑American Studies, or African‑American Studies;

or

Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper‑division or graduate coursework in at least one other constituent discipline;

or

The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

Experience and skill incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;

Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students;

Willingness to examine and remediate instructional and classroom practices to engage racially minoritized students;

Related work and professional experience;

Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;

Experience with a diverse student population;

Extent and breadth of previous teaching experience at the post‑secondary level in Ethnic Studies;

Breadth of teaching experience in Ethnic Studies;

Extent of coursework in the subject area;

Experience teaching at the post‑secondary level;

Extent of related campus/community involvement;

Experience with educational technology (computer, interactive video, etc.);

Certification to teach in an online or hybrid environment;

Experience or willingness to develop new curriculum and build a program;

Experience and/or investment in collaborative instruction, curriculum development and student support;

A collegial and amicable instructor interested in collaboration with colleagues and the wider community;

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;

Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth;

Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment 178 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits Starting annual salary is $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. The District offers medical, dental and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, life insurance, and membership in the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all required documents by the closing date will be reviewed by a selection advisory committee. The committee will rank candidates based on the minimum and desirable qualifications and invite selected candidates for interview. Interviews will be scheduled tentatively. A hiring recommendation will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interview and to the Board of Trustees for final approval.
