Ethnic Studies Instructor (Full‑Time, Tenure‑Track) – Madera Community College This is a full‑time, permanent, tenure‑track faculty position. The college may fill more than one position from this pool.

Essential Functions of the Position Madera Community College values diversity and seeks a faculty member who demonstrates equity‑minded practice. The instructor will collaborate across disciplines, mentor students, and develop inclusive programs. They will be accountable for closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices in the classroom and in departmental service.

Teach a variety of Ethnic Studies courses, including Latinx/Chicano Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, or American Indian Studies.

Design and revise curriculum that reflects the college’s Hispanic‑Serving Institution status.

Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues across the college and district to integrate interdisciplinary and culturally responsive content.

Maintain currency in the discipline through research and professional development.

Serve as faculty advisor for student groups and participate in community partnership activities.

Engage in program development, assessment, and curriculum review to improve student learning outcomes.

Assist with adjunct faculty recruitment, evaluation, and teaching support.

Provide instruction in diverse settings, including evening, weekend, online, and large‑group classes as needed.

Fulfill all additional duties as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications Evidence of responsiveness to the diverse backgrounds of community college students and a commitment to equity‑minded practice are required. A master’s degree in Ethnic Studies or a related discipline is required.

Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies or a related field (e.g., Latino Studies, Central American Studies, Cross‑Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, African‑American Studies).

Equivalency of education or experience if the degree does not match the listed disciplines.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching and service.

Recent work with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, or other historically marginalized students.

Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students.

Experience developing curriculum, leading collaborative instruction, and supporting student learning.

Knowledge of educational technology and an ability to teach hybrid or online courses.

Strong communication skills and a collegial approach to department and community collaboration.

Commitment to institutional vitality and growth in a community‑college setting.

Conditions of Employment Employment includes 178 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits The salary range is $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. The district offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including medical, dental, vision coverage, life insurance, and participation in CalSTRS.
