Greenhouse Production Assistant Grower
As a Sargent’s Greenhouse Production Assistant Grower, you are part of a team responsible for producing beautiful and healthy live plants to sell in both Sargent’s retail stores and landscape services. Along with the head grower, this position will be responsible for all areas of annual and perennial production. You will measure your success here at Sargent’s by safely and efficiently producing our live product to the highest standards. You will be part of a team that is growing and developing every day and you will play a key role in that development. As a top performer in this role, you will be highly skilled at greenhouse production and will lead and communicate well. We strive to grow high-quality annuals and perennials to pass on to our customers. We know we have done our job well when we have produced a superior product in a timely fashion. Job duties include but are not limited to:
Represent Sargent’s Vision, Mission and Values in your actions and communication. Adopt the company’s goals and provide ideas, input, critical thinking, and collaboration to find great solutions. Help lead greenhouse disease, weed and insect control program. Assist in leading and supervising staff including communication, training, scheduling, and development. Perform plant handling, receiving, tagging, fertilization, shipping, etc. Operate forklift and skid loader. Assist in administrative duties, including working in Excel, Word and Sargent’s payroll system (ADP). Assist with control of annual and perennial inventory. Collaborate with and assist other departments within Sargent’s as needed. Work a full-time schedule that will include all weekends in April and May, and rotating weekends the rest of the growing season. Overtime is required (potentially 60-65 hours per week), in the earlier part of the season. Promote and lead a safe and efficient working environment. Assist with greenhouse equipment and system maintenance. Skills/Education:
Minimum two-year degree in horticulture or related field, or 5+ years’ experience in greenhouse production. Ability to obtain DOT health card and be on Sargent’s auto insurance policy. Experience in pest control in a greenhouse environment. Detail-oriented, organized, and excellent communication skills. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and be on your feet for extended periods of time. Willing to work in a variety of weather conditions. Experience with the H2A program is a plus. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Benefits:
Pay range $21.01 - $30.47 hourly, commensurate with experience. Employee discount which includes 30% off plant materials. Retirement Plan through a 401k. Sargent’s offers a match up to 4%.
