Chaplain – NYC Health + Hospitals (Elmhurst Hospital Center)
Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is a major tertiary care provider in Queens, offering 545 beds and Level I Trauma Care, Emergency Heart Care, and 911 receiving services. It provides care in Surgery, Cardiology, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services.

Pay Range Base pay: $59,290.00 – $68,184.00 per year.
Duties & Responsibilities
Under direction, arrange and deliver chaplaincy care to patients, families, and staff, including scheduling and leading spiritual/religious services.
Visit and interview patients to ascertain spiritual/religious background, evaluate needs, and advise on specialized resources.
Respond to patient, family, and staff requests for chaplaincy care in a timely manner.
Comfort, counsel, and advise individuals, families, and staff experiencing personal, moral, or spiritual problems, including trauma and/or death.
Appropriately document all chaplaincy care activities in a timely manner.
Assist patients, families, and staff in meeting their spiritual/religious needs by leading or arranging ritual, worship opportunities, and support groups.
Organize and conduct spiritual/religious educational programs.
Provide guidance to volunteers and interns in the Chaplaincy/Spiritual Care Department.
Maintain liaison and cooperative relationships with community organizations.
Coordinate special departmental programs such as holiday gift giving to ill patients, food/clothing drives, and other spiritual/religious gatherings for staff and community members.
Perform related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Divinity, Islamic Studies, Sacred Theology, or related discipline plus a documented letter of endorsement from a faith‑based institution affiliated with the appropriate denomination (within six months of hire) or an equivalent academic credential.
Completion of four (4) Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units (1,600 hours) or current, valid chaplain certification issued by the Association for Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama: National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or equivalent.
One (1) year of community‑based experience as a recognized spiritual/religious leader.
