Job Goal Support students on bus. Keep students safe and in seats for the duration of the route.

Duties and Responsibilities

Support students on bus route

Keep students safe and in their seats for the duration of the route to and from school.

Assist disabled students in their educational, personal, health, and behavioral needs (self-care, daily living skills, physical mobility, toileting, etc.).

Maintain open and meaningful communication with supervisor regarding all students assigned paraprofessional support.

Maintain confidentiality of school-related information.

Attend meetings/functions/trainings as specifically directed.

Participate in and utilize information gained in appropriate staff development.

Demonstrate understanding of students' needs, and interact appropriately with students, parents, and other employees.

Follow instructions of staff and reinforce program philosophy and consistency.

Demonstrate initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementations; follow through with prescribed behavioral management programs.

Initiate actions required without specific direction.

Maintain composure under stressful conditions.

Demonstrate an innate ability to realize that behavior is communication and not to be taken personally.

Follow individualized styles of learning and/or behavior plans.

Ability to tolerate unique eating/sensory issues.

Maintain flexibility (switching roles/positions within the program).

Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to sit and kneel on hard surfaces, walk or stand, bend or twist at the neck and trunk, reach above the head and forward, use hand strength to grasp equipment or students, occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment Employee occasionally works in hot temperatures and temperatures below ten degrees, on slippery or uneven surfaces. Must meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interact with the public and others, and has direct responsibility for safety and well-being of others. May be exposed to fumes and airborne particles, work outside weather, and noise levels requiring raised voice to be heard.
