The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fisheries Research Data Technician to serve as part of the Magic Valley Region fisheries management crew. The position will be located at the Magic Valley Regional Office in Jerome, Idaho. It is a 5‑month temporary position requiring up to 40–50 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets. General Information
The role requires travel to remote locations for data collection, physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours over rugged terrain and along waterways, stand and work in cold water up to eight hours per shift, ride horses, hitch and pull trailers, lift and carry up to 60+ pounds with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds for short distances, and work in extreme weather conditions. The incumbent will operate motorized equipment including ATVs, boats and fleet vehicles. Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required, and overnight in‑state travel will be required. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent Must be at least 18 years old Must possess a valid driver’s license Experience following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures Some knowledge of biology, zoology, botany, conservation biology or closely related field Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species Experience recording data Experience operating ATVs, boats, trailers, trucks, and/or UTVs In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have relevant professional or volunteer‑related experience in the natural resources field and previous college coursework in topics related to natural resource sciences. Responsibilities
Conduct fish population surveys on streams, lakes, and reservoirs Assist with habitat improvement projects Conduct creel survey interviews Prepare, repair, and gather equipment for surveys Record data and enter data into databases Prepare fish aging structures for laboratory analysis Complete basic data analysis Complete other duties as assigned Seniority level
