Bench Substitute Teacher - Waterboro Elementary School
Serve as a Bench Substitute Teacher within the Waterboro School District (Regional School Unit No. 57). This full‑time position involves conducting lessons and supporting classroom activities for elementary students during regular teacher absences.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred
Ability, interest, and flexibility in working with young people
Commitment to report to school five (5) days per week to teach planned lessons or provide support to teachers and students as needed
Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and the community
Performance Responsibilities
Report to school at least 30 minutes before the start of the school day or as soon as possible after notification
Check in with the Building Administrator or Administrative Assistant(s) to receive daily assignment(s), additional duties, and substitute forms
Review and implement teacher lesson plans and instructional materials
Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for all students
Supervise students in classrooms, common areas, and other assigned settings
Promote respect for school property, staff, and peers
Take attendance promptly and report unaccounted students to the office
Provide a summary of the day’s activities for the returning teacher
Report immediately any injuries, illnesses, or significant issues to the office
Follow all school policies, rules, and procedures required of regular teachers
Check out with the office at the end of the day, leaving all required forms and notes
Perform other duties as assigned to support school operations
Physical Demands
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs
Ability to lift, push, or pull between 25–75 lbs. depending on student needs
Ability to assist with student mobility and perform other physical tasks as required
Terms of Employment
School year position, scheduled for days when students are in attendance
Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy on staff evaluation.
