Custodian
A semi‑skilled employee responsible for routine cleaning and maintenance of building interiors and grounds. This position involves operating custodial equipment, performing minor repairs, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness.
Performance Responsibilities
Clean floors, windows, fixtures, stairs, restrooms, and doors with brooms, mops, brushes, and cloths; use step stools or ladders to reach high spaces.
Prepare floors for waxing by stripping old wax, scrubbing corners, edges, and doorways, then apply and buff new wax using power buffers.
Operate various machines such as buffers, vacuum cleaners (including backpack types), carpet machines, lawn mowers, and other equipment.
Move trash containers, furniture, supplies, and other items; empty large rolling trash cans as required.
Perform routine maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, fuses, starters, pencil sharpeners, etc.
Maintain mechanical, heating, and cooling equipment by starting, stopping, and adjusting controls.
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies for assigned work area.
Perform general manual labour incidental to school/location operation.
Maintain school grounds by removing debris, trimming shrubs, cutting grass, and related tasks.
Open, close, and secure building(s); raise and lower flags.
Be available for duty if the district opens the building for public use.
Perform related work as required and other duties assigned by supervisor.
Follow safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
Lift and move 35–50 pounds routinely.
Qualifications
Must successfully meet WorkKeys/WIN requirement at the
Bronze Level
and provide scores to Human Resources; test not required for Associates/Bachelors degree or military experience.
Experience with custodial equipment and minor maintenance is preferred.
Terms of Employment
Hourly paid in Salary Group H, Support/Hourly Salary Schedule D; starting rate $11.25 per hour, maximum $13.71 per hour.
Full‑time (30+ hours per week) employees eligible for Health and Dental Benefits.
18 sick days per year for 12‑month full‑time position; 12‑month employees also receive vacation and holiday pay.
State Retirement Plan.
Year‑round employment.
Hours and days established by the Head Custodian or Plant Engineer.
