Base pay range
$19.00/hr - $21.00/hr This range is provided by Keys to Change. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more. The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) works with individuals experiencing homelessness who have diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health concerns. The role involves collaborating with community providers to connect clients to appropriate resources, address their concerns, provide crisis intervention when needed, and follow up to ensure continuity of care. What You Will Do To End Homelessness
Identify and triage clients exhibiting signs or symptoms related to mental health. Collect and interpret information to connect clients to appropriate services on campus or in the community. Perform clinical reconnections and coordinate with the Behavioral Health Coordinator regarding housing opportunities and clinical contact. Monitor client progress and liaise with mental health/health professionals to adjust treatment plans. Maintain detailed notes for all clients within the HMIS database. Liaise with patrol officers, social workers, community members, and mental health providers as needed. Expand knowledge of psychiatric disorders by attending conferences, ongoing trainings, and networking with other professionals. Observe workplace and health and safety guidelines at all times. Coordinate with hospitals and other health facilities prior to discharge of mentally vulnerable individuals to ensure proper connections to resources. Provide case management to clients identified through the Coordinated Entry system. Connect clients to health care options, including Medicare, Medicaid, ALTCS, and SMI evaluations. Foster productive relationships with community partners such as mental/medical providers, housing providers, and social service agencies. Use critical thinking and creativity to overcome service barriers. Other duties as assigned. You're an ideal Fit If You Meet the Following:
Behavioral Health Technician Certification required. Some college credits in Human Services or related field, or equivalent education and experience. At least 2 years’ experience providing homeless or mental health services. Knowledge of the mental health system and local healthcare resources, with the ability to work with diverse clients. Clear, professional communication skills; teamwork and independent work capability; multitasking in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining composure under stress. Demonstrated personal responsibility, integrity, initiative, and sensitivity to cultural diversity and lifestyle issues. Superior written and verbal communication skills (Spanish a plus). Professional communication with staff, clients, and external contacts. Ability to handle sensitive material with confidentiality and sound judgment. Valid Driver’s License with a clean 3‑year MVR. Mobility sufficient for regular duties in a typical office environment. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Work Location: One location. Seniority level
