Molecular Lab Student Assistant (NE)
Position Summary: This is a laboratory assistant role in the Molecular section of a busy Veterinary Diagnostic Lab. The position will be responsible for duties associated primarily with laboratory maintenance with some administrative support. The candidate must work with secure data, maintain confidentiality, and quickly learn and follow standard operating procedures.
Duties / Responsibilities Laboratory Assistant
Assist with biohazardous waste disposal
Wash glassware
Unpack supply shipments
Prepare PCR reagents following strict guidelines
Instrument maintenance
Inspect eyewashes weekly
Other duties as assigned
Percentage of time: 75%
Administrative
Rotate filed paperwork and package for shredding
Photocopy, scan documents for electronic archiving, and shred expired records
Percentage of time: 25%

Computer skills are essential to complete the duties of the job. Quickly learn and follow standard operating procedures in job duties. Excellent organization skills with great attention to detail. Attendance and punctuality are critical components to be successful in this position. Availability to work 4-hour continuous blocks of time.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Ability to work with secure data and maintain confidentiality.
Computer skills required to complete the duties of the job.
Ability to quickly learn and follow standard operating procedures in job duties.
Excellent organization skills with great attention to detail.
Physical Demands
Lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Candidate should be available Monday – Friday with variable hours between 8am and 5pm, and available to work during the summer.
