Department Profile:
The Continuing Education Division provides noncredit and fee-based courses on campus and in the community. Programs include ESL (levels from low beginning to low advanced), Vocational ESL, Citizenship, Basic Skills and Support Courses, Basic Literacy, Apprenticeship, courses for older adults, and more. The division collaborates with partnerships such as PAACE and oversees related programs.
Distinguishing Career Features This is a 10-month tenure-track contract position.
Job Duties
ALL FACULTY SHALL: Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws and ideas in their disciplines and best practices in teaching and learning; check mailbox, voicemail, and e-mail regularly; complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of the academic term; maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040.
ALL FULL-TIME FACULTY SHALL: Participate in committee work, student activities, and shared governance; attend staff development workshops and department/division meetings; attend commencement ceremonies; assist in unit planning, budget preparation, and inventory; develop and implement a "Flex Plan" as required by state regulations; post and maintain at least three scheduled office hours per week on at least three different days (excluding 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on Tuesday/Thursday).
ALL FACULTY ASSIGNED CLASSES SHALL: Teach all assigned classes unless excused; teach for all scheduled minutes; notify appropriate offices in advance if a substitute is needed; teach according to course outlines of record; provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress; submit a copy of the syllabus to the Division Office; keep and submit accurate records of enrollment, attendance, and progress by deadlines; submit end-of-session grades and attendance reports by deadlines; submit information about first-day/no-show students by deadlines; submit textbook order information by deadlines (electronic texts must meet accessibility and usability conditions); meet all classes during the final examination period; conduct final examinations at scheduled times unless approved otherwise; retain corrected final examination papers for at least one year; maintain a safe learning environment; allow review of assignments upon request by the instructional manager or Instructional Dean.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages, or a related field with a certificate in TESL (may be completed concurrently during the first year); or a Bachelor's degree with related majors and a TESL certificate (may be completed concurrently during the first two years); or possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL. One year of ESL teaching experience in an accredited institution is required.

Salary/Fringe Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Salary range: $83,509 - $134,792 per year. District contributes to medical/dental/vision, life insurance ($50,000), and offers a cash-in-lieu option. Participation in the State Teachers' Retirement System.
Conditions of Employment:
Tenure-track contract for 10 school months starting Fall 2026. Pre-service orientation or probationary training required. Background checks and legal work requirements apply. District does not sponsor immigration visas. Residency proof may be required.
