There are two vacancies for this position. One will be located on our Essex, MD campus and the other on the Catonsville, MD campus.
Duties The Success Coach provides individual academic and personal support to an assigned group of community college students as they progress through the program. Modeled on the highly successful CUNY Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), ASAP THRIVE (Targeted Help, Resources, Inclusion, Vision and Engagement) is a comprehensive college completion approach designed to improve graduation rates by addressing the financial, academic, and personal challenges that impact student success.
Class Specific Essential Duties
Assist students in exploring and achieving their goals, interests, strengths, values, and concerns through positive, intentional coaching strategies.
Establish and cultivate relationships with assigned students, building a rapport that offers personalized support, empathy, and guidance.
Provide appropriate referrals to the student's Pathways Advisor and other resources to ensure students have the necessary academic, career, transfer, financial, and support resources through consultative conversations.
Conduct or support the delivery of student seminars on issues of importance to students.
Maintain compliance with the college's mandatory cybersecurity training and related criteria to engage with students virtually.
Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance expertise in best practices.
Represent the department in outreach activities and serve on assigned committees.
Provide service to students on evenings, weekends, and virtual services.
Position Specific Essential Duties
Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and transition programs to help new students acclimate to the college environment.
Manage assigned caseload of students, maintaining consistent communication, monitoring progress, and coordinating timely interventions to support persistence and completion.
In partnership with the students' assigned Pathways Advisor, provide individualized success coaching and academic support through regular meetings and ongoing communication.
In compliance with CUNY-ASAP replication standards and college guidelines, review student progress and track established student success benchmarks/metrics, and conduct timely reviews to monitor and support students' evolving goals and needs.
Implement targeted interventions for students who are not on track or have demonstrated challenges in meeting success benchmarks.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student interactions, progress notes, and outcomes in appropriate systems, and recommend referrals to college resources as needed.
Assist students in developing and monitoring academic success plans, addressing barriers to learning, and implementing strategies for time management, study skills, and goal setting.
Collaborate with faculty, advisors, academic support centers, and other student service areas to ensure coordinated, wraparound support for students.
Provide outreach to students experiencing academic difficulty, probation, or restriction, connecting them with tutoring and other success resources.
Conduct and support special events, group workshops, student engagement opportunities, and success seminars on academic skills, and college resources.
Perform other duties as assigned to advance the program's mission.
Qualifications Master's degree required. Four (4) years of work experience providing career counseling, academic coaching, or advisement to students is required. Experience providing student case management to a diverse group of students in a collegiate setting is required. Experience working with adult learners in providing coaching, academic support services, academic skills assessment, and/or study skills instruction is preferred.
