Entry Level — Ideal for recent Construction Management graduates or Trade School graduates

Position Summary This entry-level role is designed for individuals who are beginning their careers in construction, project estimating, or roofing systems. As a Commercial Roofing Estimator / Sales Trainee, you will support senior estimators and sales staff while learning to prepare accurate estimates, assist with material packages, participate in job site evaluations, and help develop project proposals.

This is a hands‑on learning role where you will gain real‑world experience in commercial roofing systems, construction estimating, customer interaction, and project planning with plenty of growth opportunities within GSM Services.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in preparing basic estimates and quantity take-offs for re‑roof and new roof projects (low‑slope and steep‑slope systems).

Learn to review construction plans, specifications, and scopes of work.

Support senior estimators in developing labor and material calculations.

Help assemble material lists, pricing information, and project documents.

Participate in planning meetings and take notes or gather needed information.

Assist with tracking project costs and comparing them to estimates.

Learn the fundamentals of commercial roofing systems, including TPO, PVC, EPDM, asphalt, and architectural metal components.

Support sales team members with customer communication, proposal preparation, and project follow‑up.

Participate in job site visits to gather field information for repair or replacement estimates.

Customer & Team Interaction

Build positive relationships with customers, coworkers, and vendors.

Represent GSM Services’ mission, vision, and values in all interactions.

Provide excellent communication, teamwork, and professionalism.

Additional Duties

Assist with data entry, document organization, and maintaining accurate records.

Support other tasks as needed as part of your training and development.

Qualifications (Entry‑Level) Education

Recent graduate of a

Construction Management program ,

Engineering Technology , or related degree OR

Completed trade school in

roofing ,

construction ,

carpentry , or similar technical program

Knowledge & Skills (Training Provided Where Needed)

Basic understanding of construction or roofing concepts (classroom or hands‑on experience).

Ability to read or willingness to learn blueprint reading and take‑off software.

Strong mathematical skills related to measurements and basic calculations.

Good communication skills — verbal and written.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Proficiency with computers and basic programs (Excel, Word, etc.).

Interest in learning estimating, project planning, and roofing systems.
