Job Summary The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for the position of Bus Driver. Under general supervision, controls the operation of a school bus. Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe and efficient operation of a school bus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operates a school bus in transporting children to and from schools; may transport students on field trips and outings.
May transport wheelchair‑bound students; assists such students in boarding the bus; lifts and places wheelchairs in a secure position; transports students' medical apparatus.
Operates vehicle in compliance with state and county laws and departmental regulations.
Takes precautions to avoid accidents.
Maintains order among students aboard the bus and reports cases of misbehavior to school officials.
Assists students who become ill; cleans up as required.
Completes pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of bus (checks gas, oil, and water daily). Responsible for appearance of assigned vehicle and for reporting mechanical defects to repair shop.
Keeps records of bus operation and submits required reports; compiles and submits accident report information and reports prolonged traffic delays.
Attends safety meetings.
Performs related work as required.
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.
Education, Training and Experience
High School Diploma or State‑Approved High School Equivalency.
Five years experience as a motor vehicle operator with a valid driving license.
Satisfactory completion of a prescribed pre‑service instructional program within a reasonable period.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively may be considered.
Certificate and License Requirements Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License with S and P endorsements.
Salary, Terms, and Benefits
182‑day work year; 5 hours per day.
Salary Range: Grade B45 (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience). The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure; for external candidates the top salary is not a potential starting salary.
