Install and Repair (I&R) Technician
Abacus Technology Corporation is seeking an Install and Repair (I&R) Technician to repair, replace, install, and maintain wiring and switches at Aberdeen Proving Ground. This is a full-time, represented position.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive, remedial, and corrective maintenance of Inside Plant equipment and associated infrastructure.
Maintain, install, remove, and move all instruments, service lines, and LAN services, including all connectors, terminators, and removal of unused copper cable to the point of demarcation.
Correct and clear all trouble calls for ISP problems.
Perform any necessary equipment/system modifications or programming.
Provide dial tone service (voice and data) on government property to connect to any location worldwide.
Provide O&M support for Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) telephones.
Operate and maintain common user telephone switches, remote switches, and nodes.
Perform touch labor for installation, troubleshooting, repairing, and changing cable pairs.
Process trouble tickets or service orders in the trouble ticket database terminals (TMS and Remedy).
Process requests for approved moves, adds, and changes.
Utilize the TMS to record validated work requests, materials used, work hours, and completion dates.
Complete all change requests and trouble tickets in the TMS/Remedy systems.
Qualifications
2+ years experience providing installation and maintenance for inside plant service calls.
Experience with telecommunications equipment and systems, including telephone equipment used in the current environment.
Ability to install, terminate, and test cables; familiarity with terminal connectors and EIA/TIA standards.
Knowledge of basic electronic principles and ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Experience with fiber optic and copper cables, wire cutters/strippers, cable management tools, switches, test equipment, and basic hand tools.
Familiarity with cable testing procedures and safety precautions related to installation and troubleshooting.
Physical ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs unassisted and perform climbing/crawling as required.
Comfortable working in office and outdoor environments in a variety of conditions.
Must be a U.S. citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
