General Summary Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher supports the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth within a Catholic school environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Work collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, demonstrating lived Gospel values through personal example and active participation.
Maintain physical and informational security at all times, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
Work collaboratively in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
Adhere to all diocesan and school policies and regulations while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
Demonstrate effective planning by preparing lesson plans designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives adopted by the school.
Integrate Catholic religious curriculum, as articulated by the school.
Build the school’s faith community by actively participating in planning school religious and service-related activities.
Demonstrate and effectively communicate knowledge and competency of academic and religious curriculum; organize learning materials to maximize time and engage students.
Establish a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self‑direction and a positive self‑image; set high standards for student behavior and manage inappropriate behavior effectively.
Participate in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Representative of a Catholic parish faith community in good standing (preferred; may be required for some positions).
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Maintain a Professional Educator certification in the State of Florida.
Obtain Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification within two years.
Respect, promote, accommodate, and not conflict with the mission, moral, and social teachings of the Roman Catholic faith.
Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
Proficient in the use of computer technology, including school-related software.
Adapt flexibility in assessing needs and strategies, and adapt appropriately.
Consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all those served.
Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school-related events.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form; handle multiple abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands Stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear routinely; lift or move up to 20 pounds; maintain close and distance vision and adjust focus.
