Full-time Security Officer Floater

Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Assistant Security and Safety Manager, the Security Officer patrols assigned territory on the main campus in Seward, Nebraska to protect persons and property. The role requires flexible hours Monday‑Friday, with occasional weekends, and is full‑time with full‑time benefits. Minimum age 19. Pay is $17 per hour.
Responsibilities
Tours buildings and property, examining doors, windows, gates to assure security.
Inspects premises for signs of intrusion, utility interruptions, suspicious acts or persons, fire or safety hazards.
Inspects fire alarms, fire extinguishers, closed circuit television and access control systems for tampering.
Answers alarms, investigates disturbances, and calls appropriate authorities as needed.
Assists with lock‑out calls from students or faculty/staff.
Locks and unlocks doors according to schedule.
Assists visitors or the general public with problems that may arise on campus.
Writes reports of irregularities and keeps a daily log.
Maintains confidentiality of security information.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a security officer preferred.
Certified in First Aid and CPR.
Special Position Requirements
Ability to walk 30‑40 minutes per hour during an eight‑hour shift.
Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs at a time.
Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
Vision correctable to 20/20 required.
Hearing correctable within a normal range required.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
Must possess a good moral character.
Physical and Environmental Work Requirements
Exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
Heavy physical activity, including lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Work environment involves hazards requiring basic safety precautions.
