Salary: $45,595.00 – $70,152.00
Responsibilities and Duties
Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces.
Prepares surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, or dissolving previous paint coatings; fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk or putty; tapes, spackles, and finishes drywall; removes fixtures and protects surfaces during painting.
Selects, mixes, and matches paints; operates and maintains tools and equipment of the painting trade; may erect and work from scaffolding and ladders.
Cleans work area upon completion of the project.
Prepares estimates of time, labor and materials; prepares reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
Provides guidance and training in painting work to other maintenance personnel; may have lead responsibility for special projects.
Qualifications and Skills
Four years progressively responsible experience in the painting trade.
Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques used in the painting trade.
Thorough knowledge of basic mathematics (area, volume, weights, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions) and OSHA regulations related to the painting trade.
Skill in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment of the painting trade.
Ability to schedule and lay out work; perceive normal color spectrum; prepare summaries and reports; communicate effectively; follow oral and written directions; work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery; work from ladders, rigging, and scaffolding; manipulate heavy equipment and tools; exert force up to 70 lbs.; concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; wear and work in personal protective equipment.
Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
Valid Maryland Non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license required.
Candidates selected for employment may be required to be trained to work with asbestos.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis with 30 college credits equivalent to one year of experience.
