About the Role: Mountainside is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and highly responsive Sober Companion to provide on-demand, in-person recovery support to clients during critical transitions. This role focuses on travel support, real-time accountability, and safety, ensuring clients are supported and protected during high-risk or transitional moments. The Sober Companion collaborates closely with the client’s care team to ensure continuity and alignment.
Schedule: Per Diem
What You’ll Do:
Provide on-demand sober companionship, including travel, evenings, weekends, overnights, and extended shifts as needed
Travel with and safely transport clients for treatment transitions, admissions, discharges, appointments, and recovery-related activities
Ensure client safety and accountability in all settings, including during travel, social engagements, and transitional periods
Make thoughtful, safety-focused decisions in crisis situations while maintaining professionalism, boundaries, and clear communication
Support clients in maintaining structure, routines, and adherence to individualized recovery plans
Collaborate with the client’s full care team, including Recovery Coaches, clinicians, families, and outside providers, to ensure coordinated care
Monitor client behavior and engagement and communicate timely updates or concerns to the assigned Recovery Coach or care team
Model recovery-oriented behavior, professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries at all times
What We’re Looking For:
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust quickly
Sound judgment and ability to remain composed in dynamic or time-sensitive situations
Dependable, flexible, and comfortable with travel-based, on-call work
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team
Availability for travel, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and on-demand support
Experience in recovery support, behavioral health, or substance use treatment preferred
Qualifications:
Minimum of two years’ experience in the substance abuse field required
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training preferred
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Valid driver’s license and ability to transport clients safely
Compensation: The base rate of pay for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
