About the FCS Foundation
The FCS Foundation is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 and located at 5204 Paylor Lane in Sarasota, Florida. The FCS Foundation assists cancer patients across the state of Florida. Due to the generosity of the Florida Cancer Specialists partner physicians in covering all overhead expenses for the Foundation, 100% of donations received go directly towards paying the essential non-medical living expenses of an adult battling cancer.
Volunteer Role Become a Patient Support Volunteer for the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation. Our Volunteers brighten up a cancer patient’s day by providing non-medical support while they are undergoing treatment. In the infusion area, volunteers offer a snack or beverage to a patient, hand out warm blankets, share reading materials, talk and listen, wipe down the infusion chairs and help support the nurses with re-stocking.
Ideal candidates may be a retiree, cancer survivor or a caregiver of someone with cancer. We would also consider a college student with an interest in oncology, nursing, or medicine. Minimum time commitment is 3 hours per week for at least six months.
Other Requirements
Complete a phone interview.
Complete a criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening. Please note that FCS is a nicotine and medical marijuana free workplace. Individuals who test positive for nicotine or medical marijuana will not be permitted to participate in the volunteer program.
Complete a health screening for Tuberculosis (TB) testing and Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella immunizations or approved exemption are required for Patient Support Volunteers.
An influenza vaccine is required annually (August 1 through March 31).
