Department Overview: The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Anticipated Hours Per Week 6 or more

Schedule Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you will be scheduled at either location based on operational needs.

We are looking for students to work at the Sett Rec and Sett Pub. You will be working for both units as it is now ran by the Sett Pub. We will be open from Monday- Sunday with shifts starting at 9 am and ending at 11pm. We have MANDATORY Badger Bash games which you are required to work unless given approval by management. *** STRICTLY LOOKING FOR 11-5 AVAILABILITY FOR TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS AND SATURDAY NIGHTS 8PM-11 **

The Sett Pub:

Monday through Sunday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Shifts begin as early as 9:00 AM and end as late as 11:00 PM

Sett Recreation Hours:

Monday through Saturday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Sunday: 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Special Event Requirement – Badger Bash (Fall Home Football Games):

Mandatory participation in at least 6 of 8 home game days

These are high-volume, fast-paced service days critical to team operations

All staff are expected to be present and ready to work for these events

Salary/Wage Range: Hourly $15.00 to $15.00

Position Summary/Job Duties: This role involves food preparation, cooking, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and working across two locations: our main establishment The Sett Pub and our newly acquired Sett Recreation site.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook menu items following recipes and food safety standards

Assist in setup, service, and clean‑up at both locations

Maintain clean and organized workspaces, equipment, and storage areas

Work cooperatively with other team members in a fast‑paced environment

Follow all food handling and sanitation guidelines

Complete additional duties as assigned by kitchen leadership

Each role will have an aspect of cashiering and general customer service

Handling, cooking and preparing food, including meat*

Assisting with food and beverage service, including serving alcohol*

Maintaining a clean work environment

Qualifications:

Punctual and reliable

Ability to work in a team

Prior food experience helpful, not required

Requires standing for long periods of time

Must be enrolled as a student

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check

Student Status To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
