The Military Science Instructor (MSI) will teach effectively in both indoor classroom and field training settings, presenting standardized instruction and creative workshops to Army ROTC cadets.
Summary The MSI will provide military science instruction and training in accordance with Cadet Command’s Program of Instruction (POI), syllabus, and emerging training. Responsibilities include delivering field exercises, coaching competitive teams, and supporting recruiting/marketing activities.
Essential Functions
Deliver military science instruction and field training per POI, syllabus, and ROTC directives.
Utilize mixed media and innovative techniques to teach learning objectives and assessments.
Provide expert instruction in Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills, small unit tactics, and physical fitness.
Coach and prepare cadet teams for ranger challenge, drill team, and color guard.
Instruct cadets on leader‑led/officer‑to‑NCO relationships and crisis management.
Assist with Cadet Summer Training (CST) planning, coordination, and on‑site duties from June through mid‑August.
Support faculty development instruction as outlined in the contract.
Assist Government personnel with marketing & recruitment events, gathering prospect information, and distributing materials.
Transport ROTC personnel, cadets, and supplies in conjunction with training and recruiting activities.
Provide administrative and sustainment support during airport operations and other related tasks.
Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have any direct reports.
Work Environment Primarily indoor classroom setting; field instruction and recruiting events may require travel and outdoor activities.
Physical Demands
Speak and communicate clearly.
Demonstrate activities physically during field instruction and drills.
Travel by car, plane, or other methods as required.
Participate in recruiting events and other assigned activities.
Travel Required Local travel as needed; overnight travel annually to attend CST.
Required Education and Experience
Commissioned or non‑commissioned officer in the U.S. Army active component, reserve, or national guard.
At least six (6) years prior active or reserve experience for permanent support; four (4)–six (6) years for temporary support.
Experience must be current (within last five years) and terminated with honorable discharge or retirement.
Meet academic institution’s instructor qualifications.
Thorough knowledge of Army structure, mission, and regulations.
Knowledge of military training and field training evaluations.
Basic soldier skills: map reading, land navigation, marksmanship, drill and ceremonies.
Safety skills in small arms, ammunition, and pyrotechnics.
Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, graphics programs, and email/internet usage.
Demonstrated instructor ability in military field training exercises.
Work Authorization / Security Clearance Requirements Will be subject to background checks for Positions of Significant Trust and Authority (POSTA).
