2025–2026 school year . This position is
itinerant across 5–6 school buildings , and
mileage reimbursement
will be provided.
The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) will provide direct and consultative services to K–12 students who are blind or visually impaired. This role includes supporting students’ access to the curriculum, teaching compensatory and functional skills, coordinating assistive technology, and collaborating with school staff and families. This is an
in-person, itinerant role , ideal for a flexible educator committed to promoting independence and accessibility for all learners.

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Weekly Guaranteed Hours:

Caseload:
Approximately 12–13 students

Responsibilities
Provide specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired across multiple school buildings.
Support students in acquiring compensatory skills, including Braille, assistive technology, tactile graphics, and visual efficiency skills.
Adapt and modify curricula, materials, and assessments to ensure accessibility.
Conduct assessments and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure coordinated support.
Document student progress and maintain compliance with district and state guidelines.
Qualifications
Valid
Illinois teaching license
with endorsement as
Teacher of Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired
(required).
Experience working with K–12 students with visual impairments preferred.
Strong knowledge of Braille, low-vision devices, and assistive technology.
Ability to travel between school buildings reliably (required).
Excellent communication, organization, and collaborative skills.
Commitment to supporting student independence and accessibility.
