Summary Description This position assists InSHAPE® members to develop and implement personal wellness programs, providing support, education, and motivation related to physical fitness, nutrition, and wellness. The mentor encourages by example, trains volunteer mentors, provides individual and group activity instruction, works independently in community settings, and collects data on participant progress.
Compensation Between $41,300 and $52,240 per year (salary based on total years of relevant experience).
Work Schedule 40 hours per week.
Location Omaha, NE (Nebraska).
Minimum Qualifications
Personal Trainer Certification
Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Health Promotion or related field (preferred).
Ability to perform exercises and movements as demonstrations for clients.
Physically active and believes in holistic benefits of good health.
Commitment to decreasing health disparity and social stigma for individuals with mental illness.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provides community‑based support services to ensure implementation of client’s health goals.
Manages a caseload of approximately 20‑25 clients to establish and implement individual InSHAPE® plans.
Works collaboratively with clients, program staff, and the InSHAPE® Coordinator to design and support individual member plans.
Provides fitness training, monitoring, continuing reassessment of exercise, nutrition and healthcare commitments.
Advise participants about safety concerns and demonstrate exercises or maneuvers as needed.
Provides clients with safe, reasonable exercises that can be performed in the gym, at home, or in the community.
Facilitates peer relationships among participants.
Actively participates in activities with members when support is needed.
Helps members maintain focus on personal goals.
Encourages member participation and movement along the continuum of wellness‑related lifestyle changes.
Administers fitness assessments and records data.
Shares member participation and progress with the InSHAPE® Coordinator to assist in documentation for project outcomes.
Tracks and documents member participation in activities.
Works with clients, volunteers, and community partners to increase client independence.
Assists in planning and facilitating quarterly celebration and recognition events for participants.
Assists in facilitating team‑building activities.
Provides instruction and facilitation for group activities.
Works with clients to identify and establish wellness support systems outside of InSHAPE® program.
Assists in training new mentors, interns and volunteer mentors.
Supervises volunteer mentors.
Displays a courteous and caring attitude at all times toward clientele, volunteers, and visitors.
Collaborates with program area staff, volunteers, and other agency staff.
Abides by all specific program and agency procedures, policies and requirements.
Develops personal and program‑related skills through internal and external training opportunities.
Creates, maintains and shares a dynamic self‑care plan.
Builds connections between the agency and the larger community to support fundraising and friend‑raising efforts.
Performs other program‑related duties as assigned.
