Posting Number AA2025-2028 – English Instructor (Full‑Time, Tenure Track) – Madera Community College, Madera Campus. Start Date 08/05/2026.
Responsibilities
Teach a full schedule of English composition and composition‑support courses as needed.
Implement practices that develop writing skills at all levels.
Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as required.
Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, and off‑campus (e.g., dual enrollment at local high schools).
Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as per Administrative Regulation 7122.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition (or equivalent).
Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and Master’s in linguistics or TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.
Valid California Community College Credential (or equivalency).
Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, especially regarding equity‑minded practice in the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to engage racially minoritized students.
Experience teaching transfer‑level English and English composition and literature courses.
Knowledge of current theories and methodology for teaching writing and assessment methods.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
Experience with distance education and technology‑enabled instruction.
Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment 178 duty days per year. Starting annual salary $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. Attractive fringe benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and CalSTRS retirement benefits.
Selection Procedure Applications will be screened for completeness and minimum qualifications. A selection advisory committee will review candidates and invite selected applicants to interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of 03/09/2026 (first level) and the week of 03/30/2026 (final). A hiring recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees for final approval.
