Job Summary Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instrumentation and equipment during surgery and/or procedures performed in the Operating Room.

Essential Functions

Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and other health care providers.

Ensure availability of supplies and equipment, process sterile instrumentation and equipment.

Performs housekeeping duties as necessary.

Utilize sterile technique while setting up and assisting physician.

Assist in direct patient care when necessary.

Participate in call schedule.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Knowledge/Skill/Abilities

Knowledge and competency in OR technology and central service.

AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Education – High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience – One year in an OR or CS department required or successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist/OR Technologist program preferred.

License/Certification – BLS required within 6 months of hire; CST preferred.

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.

Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with patients and staff. Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds as part of routine duties.
