At Pauley Construction, as a Laborer Telecom Underground III on our Telecom Underground team, you’ll take on advanced responsibilities, including leading small teams and performing highly skilled tasks. Your expertise ensures the successful completion of complex projects while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. The Laborer will complete general labor duties related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor. Duties may include all phases of underground construction, including loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various types, sizes and weights of construction materials and equipment.

What You’ll Do
You will dig using hand shovel and mechanical tools
You will install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling
You will climb in and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
You will operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
You will work in congested or remote areas
You will maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination
You will perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor
You will maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures and policies
Provide intermediate‑level support with greater responsibility, troubleshooting, and operational tasks under general supervision
Resolve routine issues while escalating more complex problems
Provide support to small workgroups to meet project goals on time and follow safety standards
Complete and verify detailed production reports to maintain accurate project records
Assist with site restoration efforts, including final grading and landscaping, to meet client expectations
Train and mentor Level I and II laborers to improve their skills and knowledge
Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Need
To be 18 years of age or older
Authorization to work in the United States for this company
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
3 years of experience in underground telecommunications construction or a related field
CDL required at time of hire
Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening
Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed
May be required to work overtime, after hours, weekends, or on-call as needed
May include working nights and holidays as needed
May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business needs
Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
Additional Qualifications
Proficient in troubleshooting, operational skills, and handling more complex tasks under supervision
Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely
Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment safely
Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities
Effective communication with customers, employees, and others
Strong ability to work independently and provide support in team environments
Proven leadership experience to direct workflow and produce high‑quality results
Combination of education and/or experience demonstrating ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed
Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
Effective leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to understand and carry out instructions in written, oral, or drawing form
Mathematical skills for measuring distances, proportions, percentages, and area
Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents such as safety rules, machine manuals, and process procedures; and write reports
Physical & Safety Requirements and the Working Environment
Stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms to spaces both high and low; stand, walk, climb, balance, crawl, crouch, lift, hold or stoop while on shift
Noise level moderate in the work environment
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, sleet, dust, and adverse driving conditions such as wet or icy roads
Required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently up to 50 pounds
Potential exposure to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens
Potential exposure to toxic or corrosive chemicals and moving machinery parts
Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus near and/or far as needed
Pay Range The Laborer Telecom Underground III hourly wage range is $24.00 – $32.00, depending on experience.
