Join the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Continuing Education as a Painting Instructor for the 2026 Pre‑College Online program. In this role you will teach students in grades 10‑12, developing their skills with acrylic painting and fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
Program Overview RISD Pre‑College Online is a summer art and design intensive that offers collegiate‑level courses for high‑school students. Students participate in two‑day weekly online studio classes led by professional artists. The course framework emphasizes foundational skills, critical thinking, and portfolio development.
Responsibilities
Instruct a 3‑hour weekly online session for five weeks, delivering lectures, demonstrations, and group discussions.
Prepare course content in advance of orientation week and facilitate both live and asynchronous instruction.
Develop and deliver recorded video demonstrations and lectures using online collaborative tools.
Provide timely feedback through critiques, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Mentor students on portfolio building, college admissions, and career planning.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Teaching experience in a collegiate or high‑school setting.
Proficiency with online platforms such as Canvas and Google Suite.
Demonstrated expertise in painting (acrylics preferred) and a strong personal studio practice.
Ability to design inclusive, engaging curriculum for a diverse student body.
Strong communication skills and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Proficiency in color theory and a range of painting techniques.
Preferred
Master’s degree or equivalent professional practice.
Experience with inclusive curriculum and students from under‑represented backgrounds.
Knowledge of RISD strategic priorities in sustainability and social justice.
Work Schedule Summer 2026: June 22 – July 30 (live sessions June 29–July 30). Remote, asynchronous.
