Purpose Responsible for assisting the Sous Chef in the planning and execution of daily bakery production for University Housing and Dining (UHD).

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of all types of baked goods using commercial kitchen equipment, including mixing breads, pastries, and cakes, and preparing and applying frosting, icing and glaze. Read and comprehend recipes, including conversions, and prepare recipes independently in a high‑volume environment. Execute recipes to reduce waste and provide the freshest product possible. Report any recipe discrepancies to the Chef.

Prepare product transfers and requisitions for bakery locations and complete daily production records and waste sheets. Assist in cleaning all bakery areas and maintaining hot and cold storage in a safe and organized condition. Check computer printouts for menu amounts and recipes, review menu and purchase requirements.

Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient food service. Maintain a clean workspace and ensure baked goods are visually appealing and presented attractively. Communicate professionally with staff, supervisory staff, and customers. Maintain current knowledge of all areas of responsibility.

Ensure timely delivery of quality products and compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines. Ensure proper labeling, storage and temperature logs, and maintain appropriate temperatures throughout service. Avoid cross‑contamination and actively monitor food quality.

Adhere to University and UHD policies such as time and attendance, training and compliance. Complete and maintain required food safety training, including Texas Food Handler Safety. Follow work safety guidelines and utilize proper PPE. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

One year of experience as a baker in a restaurant, commercial or institutional facility.

Experience operating baking equipment.

Experience following recipes.

Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining.

Preferred Qualifications

Culinary degree.

Two years of experience as a baker in a restaurant, commercial or institutional facility.

Experience preparing and baking from scratch.

High‑volume baking experience.

Ability to multitask and work with little supervision.

Salary Range $41,600 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).

May work in extreme temperatures.

May work around biohazards.

May work around chemicals.

Use of manual dexterity.

Climbing of stairs and ladders.

Pushing, pulling and moving up to 50 pounds.

Lifting and moving up to 62 pounds.

Must successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment.
