Overview This is an open continuous announcement. Final application disposition will be completed once all positions have been filled or the announcement reaches the end of the open period stated in the announcement. The last cut‑off date is 11:59 pm (est), February 12, 2026. Duties for this role include fabrication, maintenance, restoration, repair, and replacement of historic and non‑historic signs.

Duties Fabricate, maintain, restore, repair and replace historic and non‑historic signs that include rustic log, wood and aluminum sign substrates. Manufacture aluminum plaques using engraving machines, routers and sand blaster. Fabricate letter routing and engraving templates. Operate computer output devices such as vinyl plotter, printer, and CNC router. Maintain, repair, and construct concrete and stone sign bases, pedestals, and guard-walls. Assist in striping parking lots, pedestrian crossings and other pavement markings using airless striping machine.

Safely operate various motor vehicles and equipment including forklift, mini‑excavator, skid loader, 5 yard dump truck, aerial man lift, all‑terrain vehicles, metal cut‑off saw and powered hand tools. Work within controlled traffic zones and perform flagging during roadway projects.

Physical Demands: Will lift objects up to 80 pounds. Requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling. May require long hours flagging traffic and hiking up to 15 miles with backpack in backcountry.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship required.

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program required.

Valid driver's license required. Must submit Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record, plus certified driving records from all states.

Relocation and travel expenses not paid.

May be required to chase four‑wheel drive vehicle training, overnight backcountry travel.

Uniform required; allowance provided.

Work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work may be required.

Obtain and maintain government charge card with travel authority.

Applicant minimum age 18 (or 16 with high school diploma or equivalent).

Qualifications

Ability to perform Sign Painter work with minimal supervision (Screen out).

Experience using vinyl plotters, printers and CNC routers; fabricate and maintain vinyl signs.

Experience in stone masonry and carpentry applicable to sign making, maintenance and repair; experience with shaping and welding steel to drawing specifications; restore and repair rustic log and wood signs.

Operate chainsaws, rock breakers, arc welder and oxygen/acetylene torch and other power tools.

Working Conditions Projects range from 2,000‑10,000 feet in elevation in mountainous terrain under moderate to severe weather conditions. Exposure to dust, grease, noise, vibrations. Walks on icy, slippery surfaces in winter; temperatures over 100°F in summer. Must wear protective equipment and maintain uniform per NPS standards.
