Pay Range $13.75/hr – $20.21/hr
Job Summary Maintains and cares for grounds, ensuring that the grounds are neat, clean, safe and inviting at all times. This includes mowing and edging lawns with hand or power equipment, trimming hedges, blowing off walks, mulching, tree trimming, bush trimming, and weeding and thinning flowerbeds. Identifies and recommends landscaping design ideas and needs to Grounds Supervisor. Responsible for leaf control, overseeding, sod installation, and aeration of turf. Responsible for removing diseased and unsightly shrubbery and pruning trees. Removes dead trees using the provided equipment and grinding stumps using a rental grinder. Removes trash and other debris from grounds on a regular basis. Performs daily equipment and grounds inspection and general cleanup rounds. Performs daily and periodic preventive maintenance on lawn equipment and machinery according to established schedules or as needed. Accurately documents the status and condition of items inspected in accordance with established department policies and procedures. Conducts on-the-spot adjustments and repairs as necessary. Prepares seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals as needed, following departmental guidelines and product usage instructions at all times. Creates irrigation control, performs minor irrigation repairs, and installs drains. The movement of lawn furniture may be necessary to accomplish this. Installs and repairs fences, retaining walls, fountains, ponds, and patios (brick, concrete, stone, etc.) Plants seeds and bulbs, tree seedlings, grass seed and shrubbery and properly maintains these so that resulting growth will produce an attractive and professional appearance. Removes bulbs and roots from the ground for winter storage when required by weather and time of year. Properly stores for planting in spring. Identifies grounds potential and real problems with recommended solutions to maintenance supervisor. Assists in snow removal, snow plowing, salting, shoveling, etc. This may include heavy equipment operation. Purchases parts and supplies as needed, in accordance with facility and departmental established policies and procedures, to ensure adequate stock for continuous grounds maintenance. Picks up and delivers supplies as needed. Performs general maintenance duties such as equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance and repair, minor equipment repairs and other general maintenance functions. May be assigned other duties as appropriate.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Class E License
Prior groundskeeping experience is helpful, but not required
Positive service attitude toward team members, visitors, and customers
Ability to use hand tools, power equipment and groundskeeping chemicals, including herbicides and pesticides in a safe and efficient manner
Ability to hear and follow directions
Ability to work independently
Good verbal communication skills
Flexibility, versatility and reliability as a team player
Good hand/eye coordination
Manual dexterity, coordination and skillful use of hands and feet for working with and on required equipment
Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral communication
Visual acuity and ability to read and understand written directions
