Material Technician‑Central Dispatch (Full Time) – Erlanger
Location: Erlanger Baroness Hospital, Chattanooga, TN
Job Summary Orders supplies/IV fluids from appropriate warehouses or outside vendors. Performs departmental inventory counts for durable medical equipment (DME) and answers telephone calls handling minor issues. Orders specialty equipment from rental companies and documents billing information. Trains new departmental personnel in the supply and distribution of equipment, pharmacy items, orthopedic set‑ups, IV fluids, and emergency/specialty supply carts. Operates hospital computer systems, Pyxis Medication Stations, and inventory control systems. Manages durable equipment orders, cleans equipment, and executes disinfection processes for specialty scopes and miscellaneous instruments. Ensures adherence to safety and control concepts as per departmental policies, OSHA and JCAHO/DNV standards. Provides appropriate equipment based on order review, patient age, and location. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and customer service to nursing staff, patients, and employees.
Responsibilities
Order supplies and IV fluids from designated warehouses or vendors.
Conduct inventory counts for durable medical equipment.
Answer and resolve telephone inquiries.
Order specialty equipment and document billing information.
Assist in training new staff in supply and distribution processes.
Maintain proficiency on hospital computer systems, Pyxis stations, and inventory control systems.
Process durable equipment orders and clean/disinfect equipment.
Adhere to safety and control standards (OSHA, JCAHO/DNV).
Provide equipment to patients based on order, age, and location.
Deliver equipment, IV, and pharmacy items to nursing areas.
Education
Required: High School Graduate
Preferred: 2+ years beyond high school with emphasis on computerized inventory skills
Experience
Required: One year experience with a computerized equipment/inventory system
Preferred: Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Peoplesoft System, Siemens InVision, Net Access System
