ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Utility Supervisor/Sr. Gas Operator

Directs: This is a nonsupervisory position.

Other: Has contact with other city employees, direct customer contact, contracts with the general public, and contractors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Keep water and gas meters in working order

Manages daily consumption and continuous water usage reports, verifies leaks, makes repairs

Disconnect and reconnect water and gas services

Repairs and replaces residential water and gas equipment as needed.

Operates 1/2-to-3/4-ton vehicles, hand tools, computers, tablets, various computer software

Maintains needed warehouse stock of residential water and gas meters and associated equipment

Locates, sets, repairs, and maintains water meter boxes

Receives and responds to customer complaints, resolves or recommends appropriate action

Performs leak testing of residential equipment/utilities

Performs monthly disconnects for non-payment and NFS of services

Maintains records of work performed

Assists with Billing front counter when needed

Assists other departments as needed when possible

Assists other utility divisions as needed and assigned

OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: methods, practices, equipment, and hand tools used in the safe handling of chlorine and natural gas; and the safe operation of light equipment and hand tools for the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of such motorized equipment.

Skill/Ability to: service and make repairs to water, gas, and wastewater meters, applying safety standards to prevent hazards; learn the location of meters and how to read various types; understand and follow instructions; make simple mathematical computations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; deal effectively with the public in stressful situations; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications, Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least three years of experience in utility services (Water, Wastewater, and Natural Gas Rules and training is preferred); or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED Appropriate Texas driver's license. Natural Gas Qualifications will also be needed to work on a Natural Gas Pipeline system.
