Diesel Mechanic/Technician I – Reefer Experience Needed

Ready to move your career forward? As an experienced Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and repairs of all levels on the newest and best maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You will help our customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road.
As a Technician I at Penske, you are a respected, experienced lead at your location—a master technician. You set an example and informally mentor others while learning from your manager. You are trusted to work independently while doing major and minor repairs, performing road tests to diagnose problems and completing maintenance tasks.
Main Responsibilities
Perform all levels of maintenance services, with the primary focus on all refrigeration unit such as Carrier and/or Thermo King commercial refrigeration equipment designed for commercial trucks and trailers.
Be able to test lines, components, and connections using electrical, mechanical and pneumatic test equipment.
Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers.
Do preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with little or no supervision and in a timely manner.
Keep your work area clean and safe.
Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics.
Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training.
Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
6 years of practical experience with truck and tractor-trailer maintenance.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications (preferred).
Specialized training and experience in the overhaul of refrigeration components required.
Experienced using all tools of the trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and hand and power tools).
Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred.
The ability to solve problems.
Excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
The ability to work well as part of a team.
Willingness to work in non-climate-controlled conditions.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management.
Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies, including proper tool selection, PPE, machine guarding, and best safety practices.
Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
Driving Penske and customer vehicles requires a current driver qualification file and DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start for CDL holders.
Willingness to travel within the district, work the required schedule, complete Penske employment application, background screening (criminal checks, past employment and education), and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend, and sit for extended periods throughout scheduled work.
Use hands daily to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel, or operate tools or controls.
Work safely at heights using applicable ladders and elevated working platforms.
Work safely in all weather conditions.
See and hear to navigate the work environment safely.
Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg regularly and up to 100 lbs/45 kg occasionally; push/pull truck tires exceeding 100 lbs as required.
