Diesel Technician/Mechanic III - Entry Level
Location: 2220 Toledo Rd, Elkhart, IN 46516
Ready to accelerate your career while helping our customers move forward? As a Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on our latest and best‑maintained fleet of vehicles. You will help our customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road.
Responsibilities
Ensuring vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
Using Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
Performing preventive maintenance repairs—such as replacing or rotating tires—and completing vehicle component lubrication and replacement, some electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engine vehicles
Partnering with your manager to learn new skills using Penske’s technician training and hands‑on coaching
Working on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
Basic mechanical aptitude and 1–2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred)
Valid driver’s license
Problem‑solving ability and comfort using tools
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Team‑player; able to work independently or in a group setting
Basic computer skills
Ability to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management
Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies, including proper selection and use of tools, PPE, machine guarding, and best safety practices
Full attendance is an essential function of the job
Experience driving Penske and customer vehicles; regulated by the DOT and requires maintenance of a current driver qualification file, including annual MVR check, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records; CDL holders must complete DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and undergo FMCSA Clearinghouse review
Willingness to work the required schedule, specific location, complete Penske employment application, background screening, drug screen, physical, and pass DOT and FMCSA requirements; ability to travel within a near geography for training
Physical Requirements
Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
Use of hands daily for grasping, reaching, touching, handling, and operating tools or controls
Ability to work safely at heights with ladders and elevated platforms
Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
Visual and auditory acuity to navigate workplace safely around large trucks
Ability to regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg); ability to push/pull heavy truck tires exceeding 100 lbs
