What You Will Do Working solo or with a team, you will maintain and repair vehicles for the Cox Communications Fleet to make them look and run like new. Here is a list of some of the key responsibilities that accompany this job.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance: change oil, oil filter, fuel filter, transmission flush, and inspect the vehicle for mechanical deficiencies.
Perform light and major repairs, advanced vehicle diagnostics, and OBD II systems.
Maintain and repair equipment such as cable trailers and laptop docking stations.
Keep shop area clean and tidy, perform work in accordance with safety standards, and dispose of all fluids safely.
Create and maintain vehicle history and maintenance records; up‑fit new vehicles with necessary equipment.
Perform complex repairs, advanced diagnostics, design, and fabrication.
Coordinate with vendors for parts and repairs; perform roadside assistance as needed.
Engage in equipment design and moderate fabrication tasks, including welding.
Troubleshoot and repair complex hydraulic systems, generators, electrical systems, hybrids, and onboard computer systems.
Diagnose, repair, and replace general automotive parts and accessories, including brakes, drivability, emissions, steering/suspension, electrical, state safety, HVAC, major engine, and hydraulics.
Supervise shop productivity, provide work direction, and identify priorities to a small staff of technicians.
Assist Area Manager with training compliance, monitoring HR compliance, and maintaining vendors and sublet repair facilities.
Maintain all shop tools and communicate tool needs to leadership.
Implement SOPs to ensure compliance with company standards.
Lead a team, enforce safety, and model safety behaviors; lead responsibility for safety compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local codes.
Review work volumes, plan, monitor staffing levels, and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency and quality work product.
Perform quality control checks on all work; notify immediate supervisor of exceptional or unsatisfactory work.
Orient, train, and instruct new and current employees regarding job functions and tasks.
Assist with inventory management and keep shop equipment, supplies, and tools in good working order.
Report theft, damage, or safety concerns to management.
Work with manager to review work volumes, plan, and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service.
Enforce all company policies and procedures related to employee and customer conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED and 7 years’ experience (or a related combination of degree/certification and 5–9 years’ experience).
Possess or be able to attain Master Level ASE certification preferred.
Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmission.
Ability to work safely in a fast‑paced environment.
Regular required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear; frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
Vision abilities required include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be detail‑oriented.
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds (tools, equipment).
Diesel experience preferred.
Master‑level techs must be versed to work on multiple applications from Light‑Duty to Class A‑Heavy Trucks, Mechanical Equipment, Machinery, Passenger Vehicles, and more.
Requires extensive training and certification accompanied with a preferred 5–10 years of hands‑on diesel repair experience.
Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
Exhibit strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
Must successfully complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
Due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required. Candidate must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
