SAFETY/SECURITY SENSITIVE DESIGNATION & JOB OBJECTIVE

This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening. JOB OBJECTIVE: To perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair services on automotive vehicles, heavy duty trucks and various construction equipment to include dozers, excavators, forklifts and related equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains minor repair services on City vehicles and equipment; utilizes electronic diagnostic and mechanical adjustment tools. Requests repair parts and materials required for vehicle and equipment repairs. Services vehicles and equipment components, including air and hydraulic systems, automatic drive lines, ignition systems, brakes and other malfunctioning components or systems. Installs and adjusts brakes, replaces suspension components and performs preventative maintenance services. Completes work order for each vehicle and unit serviced, listing items replaced and materials used, repair notes and vehicle test results; notifies the supervisor of major repair and replacement requirements. Maintains safe and clean work area in compliance with all Departmental policies and procedures. Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a standard high school course and/or vocational school courses in automotive mechanics, and one (1) year of work experience as an automotive mechanic or mechanic assistant. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position and must possess a valid Arkansas Class B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License within ninety (90) days of employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position. Must possess the tools required for this position by the Department of Fleet Services within thirty (30) days of employment and maintain required tools in working condition for the duration of employment in this position. Performs minor welding and tacking tasks. Stays abreast of latest trends in the automotive industry by reading technical publications and participating in related educational opportunities. Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion, diesel, gasoline, butane fuel engines, and related mechanical systems. Familiarity with occupational hazards and safety precautions of automotive and construction equipment trades. Skill in the care and use of hand and light power tools. Skill in the use of special diagnostic and mechanical adjustment equipment. Skill in the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles, heavy duty trucks and construction equipment to include dozers, excavators, forklifts, and related equipment. Skill in the operation of automatic and standard (manual) transmission automobiles. Ability to diagnose vehicle malfunctions. Ability to maintain and repair heavy duty trucks and construction equipment to include dozers, excavators, forklifts, and related equipment. Ability to keep accurate records and complete work orders. Ability to read and write. Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. Ability to note defects, damage, and wear in vehicle systems and automotive/equipment components.
