Job Description RSi is looking to fill an Engineering Technician Level III for our NASA customer. This role provides semi-professional technical support to engineers in research, design, development, testing, and manufacturing process improvement involving electrical, electronic, or mechanical components. The Engineering Technician III works under established procedures, handling recurring assignments independently while receiving detailed guidance for unfamiliar tasks. Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. The position operates in unique and sometimes hazardous research or test environments, requiring specialized skills gained through targeted training, on-the-job experience, and applicable certifications.

Success in this role requires practical knowledge of science or engineering—along with basic mathematics or computer science in some cases—and the ability to support testing, data extraction, equipment assembly, and facility operations with accuracy and consistency. May prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment.

This level performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

Typical Duties

Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.

Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.

Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.

Assemble or construct standard equipment or parts following specific instructions.

Service and repair simple instruments or equipment as directed.

Conduct tests using established methods and operate test equipment.

Prepare test specimens and accurately record and verify test data.

Extract and process engineering data field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.

Identify deviations caused by equipment issues or observational errors.

Present processed data in prescribed formats for engineering review.

Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Operate within specialized, hazardous research and test facilities using required certifications. The position operates in unique, "one of a kind," and/or hazardous research and test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, equipment, and are required to have highly specialized skills that in many cases can only be obtained through specialized training, "on the job" work experience, and certification(s).

Clearance Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issued credentials and IT access. Applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
