Engineering Technician Level III Job Description:
RSi is looking to fill an Engineering Technician Level III for our NASA customer. This role provides semi‑professional technical support to engineers in research, design, development, testing, and manufacturing process improvement involving electrical, electronic, or mechanical components. The Engineering Technician III works under established procedures, handling recurring assignments independently while receiving detailed guidance for unfamiliar tasks. Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. The position operates in unique and sometimes hazardous research or test environments, requiring specialized skills gained through targeted training, on‑the‑job experience, and applicable certifications.
Responsibilities
Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
Assembles or constructs standard equipment or parts following specific instructions.
Services and repairs simple instruments or equipment as directed.
Conducts tests using established methods and operates test equipment.
Prepares test specimens and accurately records and verifies test data.
Extracts and processes engineering data field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
Identifies deviations caused by equipment issues or observational errors.
Present processed data in prescribed formats for engineering review.
Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seeks sources to clarify information.
Operates within specialized, hazardous research and test facilities using required certifications. The position operates in unique, “one of a kind,” and/or hazardous research and test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, equipment, and are required to have highly specialized skills that in many cases can only be obtained through specialized training, on‑the‑job work experience, and certification(s).
