Position Overview
The Process Mechanic 3 is responsible to perform general to advanced mechanical repairs to plant equipment and systems. This role performs routine mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance tasks. Additionally, this role ensures systems meet stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Performs general to advanced mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to all plant equipment and systems (e.g., pumps, valves, agitators, fans, bearings, couplings, belt drivers, mechanical seals, hoists, hydraulics, pneumatics, on-off actuators, diaphragms, filters, fasteners, etc.).
Issues hot work and confined space entry permits.
Supports analysis of equipment breakdowns (failure analysis) to determine root cause and make recommendations to eliminate future breakdowns.
Supports project engineering with design, installation, validation of new plant systems including facility, process, lab, and utility systems.
Participates in or leads maintenance functions on large projects, including coordination, tracking, reporting updates, meetings, etc.
Creates and formulates written instructions for preventive maintenance tasks and standard operating procedures (SOPs) (e.g., charts, graphs, data records) using Microsoft Office or other document generation platforms.
Assists facility coordination with planning equipment or system shutdowns for maintenance.
Participates on FEMA teams and other process improvement teams, as needed.
Implements system modifications or upgrades for efficiency, performance, and safety improvements.
Locates spare parts, as necessary and makes recommendations for inventory stock levels.
Documents all work performed on work orders and adheres to Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) standards.
Adheres to all safety requirements and procedures and immediately notifies management or Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) when unsafe conditions or hazards are discovered.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma/GED with 4 to 6 years of maintenance experience; or
Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering or related field with 2 years of maintenance experience
Advanced knowledge of plant equipment and systems
Ability to operate components and complete system maintenance with limited assistance
Effective communication, both written and verbal
Ability to use root cause failure analysis tools for equipment reliability
Knowledge of GMP requirements
Ability to work in a team environment and ability to train others
Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on‑call and weekends
Preferred Education and Experience
4 years of maintenance experience in a GMP environment
Experience working with CMMS, confined space entry and lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical troubleshooting
Physical Requirements
Will work in an environment which may necessitate respiratory protection.
May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program.
Will work in an environment operating a motor vehicle or Powered Industrial Truck.
Ability to discern audible cues.
Ability to inspect or perform a task with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity, including distinguishing color.
Physical Demands
Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time up to 240 minutes
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time up to 120 minutes
Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools.
Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds
Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18″ to 60″ in height, and use twisting motions.
Environmental Conditions
Will work in warm/cold environments.
Will work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
Will work in heights greater than 4 feet.
