Class Definition An Automotive Maintenance Worker performs safety checks on vehicles and assists mechanics in performing installation, maintenance and repair work on cars and trucks. The role involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Employees receive close supervision from a technical superior. The work is performed in an automotive shop where dirty, greasy conditions and fumes are regularly encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
Minimum Qualification
Experience: one year of automotive maintenance or repair work.
Equivalency: one year of automotive mechanic coursework in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
License: valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent driver’s license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s license are not acceptable. Upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with your application.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the tools used in automotive maintenance work.

Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment must complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint. Fingerprint must be successfully completed in the final stage of the hiring process.
Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation period.
Eligibility Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained outside the United States must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application.
