Equipment Operator I (General Support)
The purpose of this position is to operate equipment, coordinating the maintenance, operation, and repairs while working under close supervision.
Responsibilities
Operate light equipment used in construction and maintenance projects such as rollers, graders, backhoes, front‑end loaders, forklifts, dump trucks, bulldozers, or utility tractors with shredder.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections, routine servicing, and minor repairs on equipment.
Ensure adherence to safety standards when operating equipment.
Load trucks and haul contents to required locations.
Maintain records of inspections and maintenance activity.
Inspect equipment to ensure it meets specifications.
May perform other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
Perform related work as assigned.
Requirements
High school graduation or GED equivalent.
1–3 months of related experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
May require OSHA training, flagger certification, CPR/first aid certification, and a commercial driver’s license.
All applicants tentatively selected will be required to submit to urinalysis for drug screening and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation. Beaufort County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
