Position Summary
The Lead Sterile Processing Technician is an experienced Certified Sterile Processing Technician who, under the supervision of the SPD Supervisor, serves as a shift lead and can run a shift independently when supervisors are absent.
Assists and monitors activities related to sterilization, decontamination and disinfection for the assigned shift while promoting service satisfaction through training, education and resolution of instrument set and process concerns for staff and physicians.
Assists the SPD Supervisor in overseeing compliance with regulatory considerations, participates in orientation of new hires, quality audits and performance‑improvement activities.
Actively participates in outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all colleagues.
Responsibilities
Assembles instrument trays for operating rooms and oversees daily operations of all activities related to reprocessing reusable medical supplies and instrumentation.
Ensures all team members follow proper operational procedures.
Collaborates with the SPD Supervisor to schedule new employee orientation, on‑the‑job training, and in‑service education.
Completes required documentation for inventory/equipment requests and repairs.
Maintains professional relationships with all facility departments to ensure effective support to patient caregivers.
Prepares instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing and storing procedures.
Performs equipment distribution, routing cleaning and maintenance.
Maintains punctual attendance and complies with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification:
Certification through HSPA, CRCST or CBSPD (CSPDT).
Experience:
Two years of experience in a hospital‑based sterile processing department.
