CNC Set Up Machinist Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes with live tooling to produce precision components according to blueprints and specifications
Read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, and inspection instructions to ensure parts meet all dimensional requirements
Select, install, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets for optimal performance
Perform in-process quality checks using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges
Make offset adjustments as necessary to maintain tight tolerances and ensure consistent product quality
Perform multiple setups throughout the day in a job shop or low-volume production environment
Maintain machines through regular cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance
Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and other team members to improve setup efficiency and product flow
Follow all safety, quality, and company procedures to ensure a safe and productive work environment
CNC Set Up Machinist Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum 2 years of CNC setup experience in a manufacturing environment
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Proficient in reading blueprints and using precision measuring equipment
Ability to perform complete machine setups independently, including tooling and program verification
Experience with both CNC mills and lathes preferred
Comfortable working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
Willingness to work a 4/10 schedule and occasional overtime as needed
