Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Tool & Die Maker to join our Muskegon team. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and building stamping dies, ensuring parts meet precise specifications, and supporting production quality through expert craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Essential Functions
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and written/verbal instructions to build and repair stamping dies.
Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders) to produce precision parts.
Shape, fit, and finish parts to prescribed dimensions, tolerances, and surface requirements.
Inspect and verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using precision measuring instruments.
Conduct test runs with tools/dies and adjust as necessary to ensure parts meet specifications.
Maintain, clean, and repair stamping dies, applying preventive maintenance practices.
Accurately complete tooling and maintenance records to ensure traceable documentation.
Work independently with strong attention to detail and flexibility for overtime as needed.
Apply metric measurements and convert between metric and standard units during machining and inspection.
Collaborate with the Toolroom Supervisor and team members on additional projects and process improvements.
Works according to Scherdel’s quality and environmental system requirements, and customer quality requirements.
Position Requirements
Journeyman Tool and Die certification or equivalent experience required.
3 to 5 years of tool room experience preferred.
Tool and Die stamping experience preferred.
Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and instructions.
Shift Hours
1st shift: 7:00am - 3:00pm
2nd shift: 3:00pm - 11:00pm
3rd shift: 11:00pm - 7:00am
