What You’ll Do As a Manual Machinist 2, you will independently produce metal parts using manual lathes and mills. This role requires strong setup and operating skills, the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, and consistent use of precision measuring tools. Compared to Machinist 1, this position carries a higher level of technical responsibility and includes assisting with training and mentoring less experienced machinists.

The Must-Haves
High School Diploma or GED
3+ years of experience as a manual machinist
Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Strong proficiency using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators)
Solid understanding of machining principles and manufacturing processes
Experience operating manual lathes and mills independently
Ability to accurately measure, inspect, and document parts to meet tolerances
Proper and consistent use of machining tools and safety equipment
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Independently set up and operate manual lathes and mills
Select, install, and change tooling as production needs require
Ensure all parts meet GEM Equipment quality standards
Monitor and maintain machine fluid levels
Accurately complete all required paperwork and job documentation
Inspect finished parts and verify conformance to specifications
Assist in training and supporting Machinist 1 employees or trainees
Safely operate a forklift as needed
Maintain a clean, organized work area and sweep at the end of each shift
Perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshoot minor issues
Possess and maintain personal precision tools
Wear required PPE at all times (steel-toed boots, safety glasses)
Expectations
Work independently with minimal supervision
Maintain high productivity while producing quality parts
Continuously look for ways to improve part quality and reduce cycle time
Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn
Effectively multitask, including running multiple machines when requiredCommunicate clearly with supervisors regarding issues or improvements
Maintain a strong safety record and follow all safety protocols
Be punctual with consistent and reliable attendance
Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Preferred (Not Required)
Vocational or technical training in Machining, Precision Manufacturing, or CNC/Manual Machining
Forklift certification
OSHA 10 or 30 certification
Experience mentoring or training junior machinists
