Specimen Processing - Specimen Technician

Shift: Sun-Thu 21:30-06:00 CST
Summary The SPT I provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. The role requires a data‑entry background and involves a variety of functions, ranging from specimen handling to imaging and centrifugation. Work is performed with confidence, accuracy, and efficiency, and staff must be adaptable to daily changes in compliance regulations and customer demands. The position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction and typically operates on the night shift, with weekend, holiday, on‑call, and overtime availability as required.
Responsibilities
Process samples at A‑station and presort specimens.
Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
Operate imaging/microfilming equipment.
Perform centrifugation and aliquoting tasks.
Maintain accurate data entry at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Adhere to biohazard safety protocols and maintain a clean work area.
Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
Support productivity and quality standards in a production environment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic computer skills and preferred knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing.
No prior experience required; preferred laboratory experience, including knowledge of medical terminology and a clinical laboratory background.
Previous experience in a production environment is preferred.
Other Demonstrates flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt to change.
