Position Overview This position works within the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Unit. The investigator conducts administrative and criminal investigations related to the sexual abuse of offenders housed in MDOC facilities in the Western Region (WRDCC, MTC, CRCC, CCC, TCKC, MCC, BCC, TCC, JCCC, ACC, and OCC). Statewide travel is required.
Responsibilities
Conduct investigations, including interviewing, collecting evidence, and documenting case information
Perform crime scene processing and evidence collection from multiple sources
Prepare investigative plans and execute them
Conduct thorough interviews to ascertain circumstances
Be on call and respond to crime scenes in a timely manner
Work as part of a major incident response team and execute investigative direction
Manage a case load and multitask between cases to address important aspects of all cases
Establish and maintain effective relationships with department officials, law enforcement, prosecutors, other state agencies, and the general public
Minimum Qualifications
One or more years of experience as a Non‑Commissioned Investigator with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency
Six or more years of experience in civil, administrative, or criminal investigations (non‑clerical), such as tax fraud, licensing, environmental, client care, public assistance, insurance, or military; or experience as a law enforcement officer with responsibility of conducting investigations
Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university that include credit hours in criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, business administration, social science, environmental science, or related field may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year – a minimum of two years of experience is required
Shift Differential & Stipends
A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center)
A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if working full‑time at a qualifying facility
A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility
