Intake Paralegal

Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project, Portland, Maine, us, 04122

Save Job

The Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) is a statewide civil legal aid organization dedicated to increasing access to justice for individuals who cannot afford legal assistance. Established in 1983, VLP connects volunteer attorneys and trained community members with those in need, providing brief advice, limited representation, and pro‑bono services in areas such as family law, workers’ rights, bankruptcy, and more. Innovative programs such as Free Legal Answers Maine (FLAME) and the Court House Assistance Program (CHAP) extend legal support to people where they need it most—both online and in community and court settings. With a partnership‑driven approach, VLP is the cornerstone of Maine’s pro‑bono infrastructure, fostering systemic improvements in the civil justice system for over four decades.

Additional tasks include supporting clients through navigation of court processes and forms, documenting client communications, and maintaining accurate data records. Collaboration with staff, attorneys, and community organizations is integral to this role.
