About Us We are a boutique law firm with a reputation for aggressive advocacy, client-first service, and results. Our practice focuses heavily on landlord-tenant disputes, habitability, harassment, retaliation, and related civil litigation. We are expanding and need a sharp, organized, and proactive Legal Assistant to keep our cases and operations running at top speed.
Position Overview The Legal Assistant will provide direct support to attorneys by managing case files, drafting and formatting legal documents, coordinating with clients, and ensuring deadlines are met. You’ll be in the trenches of active litigation—this is not a paper-pushing role. Expect to handle multiple cases simultaneously, pivot quickly, and keep the team operating at a high level.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, proof, and format legal documents (pleadings, discovery, correspondence, demand letters)
Maintain case files and docketing systems, track deadlines, and manage calendars
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and courts in a professional, timely manner
File documents electronically (state and federal court e-filing)
Conduct basic legal research and compile case summaries
Assist in trial and mediation preparation, including organizing exhibits and binders
Handle administrative tasks (scanning, billing, scheduling) to keep workflow efficient
Qualifications
Required:
1 years experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal in civil litigation (landlord-tenant experience preferred)
Familiarity with California Code of Civil Procedure, local court rules, and e-filing systems
Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills
Ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
Professional, client-facing communication skills
Tech-savvy: MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, case management software (Clio a plus)
Preferred:
Paralegal certificate or degree in legal studies
Experience with Oakland Tenant Protection Ordinance and tenant-rights litigation
What We Offer
Competitive salary (DOE) benefits package
Growth opportunities within a rapidly expanding litigation practice
Collaborative work environment—tight-knit team, high accountability, no micromanaging
Hands-on litigation experience that will sharpen your skills and advance your career
